E.P.I.C. Motion at Prelude East Coast 2011
…And so ends the Fall 2011 season.
When I first made EPIC, I was told by other East Coast dancers that it was a “weird” time for me to join them. I didn’t know this when I first auditioned, but EPIC went through some changes this season in terms of their dancers and directors. It was almost like a new start as a new company. We had our ups and downs during this season of change, but I’m proud and happy to say that I was part of it.
Change is good; it gives you the opportunity to learn and grow. If you’ve danced under one umbrella for so long, being on a different team in a new environment can teach you so much about yourself as a dancer and as a person overall.
Plus being part of EPIC Motion this season gave me a place to be my weird awkward self. It was like my safe haven in New York City where I could be weird and awkward with other weird and awkward people lol.
This last performance of the Fall season reminded me of what it was like to just dance for fun. (Who remembers what that’s like?!) There’s so much cockiness and seriousness flooded throughout the dance community that I think most dancers forget that dancing is supposed to be fun! Remember that the main reason we started dancing is because we love it. Winning is not the priority. Stay passionate, driven, and humble.
Thank you to the EPIC Motion directors for allowing me to be part of this season. I’m excited to see EPIC grow and only become better from here on out!
Ruvv you peoples.
